Ruby's Knife

Ruby with her demon-killing knife in 3.01 The Magnificent Seven
  • In 3.01 The Magnificent Seven, Ruby appears during the battle with the Seven Deadly Sins, and kills three of the demons with a dagger. Until this point, the only way to get rid of a demon had been exorcism, which sent it back to hell, or with the Colt which killed it.
  • Bobby states that he has never heard of a blade that could kill demons.
  • In 3.09 Malleus Maleficarum, Ruby tries to use the knife to kill Tammi but loses it in the ensuing fight. Dean eventually kills Tammi with it.
  • In 3.16 No Rest For The Wicked, Dean steals the knife in the hope of using it against Lilith. However when Sam attacks her with it, she stops him with her powers. Later, after Dean has been killed, Sam is able to withstand her power, and is about to use the knife on her when she vacates the boddy she is using and escapes.

Other information:

Ruby possesses a mysterious and somewhat magical "demon-killing" dagger. It has been seen and utilized many times throughout the season, mainly as an instrument to kill demons. Upon being stabbed by the dagger, both the demon and human host suffer immediate death. The demon possessing the human is shown to convulse violently, as if shot with the Colt. It then flickers with light before expelling a small cloud of smoke from the human body, leaving whoever it was possessing dead. The demon possessing the body then also disperses, as the dagger's effects mirror that of the Colt. However, both its creation and how exactly it can kill demons has not yet been revealed. Ruby's dagger was featured prominently in the season three finale, "No Rest For The Wicked," and is currently in Sam's possession.

Lilith possessing the body used by Ruby
Lilith in Supernatural
3.09 Malleus Maleficarum
The demon Tammi makes the first reference to her - though not by name - she tells Sam that a new leader has risen "in the west", and wants to kill him.
3.12 Jus in Bello
When Sam and Dean are captured by the FBI and held at a local police station, they find themselves under siege by a horde of demons. When Ruby shows up to help, she explains that the demons are trying to kill Sam at Lilith's command. At the end of the episode Lilith shows up looking for Sam & Dean before destroying the sheriff's office and and killing everyone inside including Special Agent Victor Henriksen and Nancy Fitzgerald.
3.15 Time Is On My Side
It is revealed that Bela made a deal with a crossroads demon, and that Lilith holds her contract. She has made a deal with Lilith that would release her from the deal if she killed Sam.
Lilith is in New Harmony, Indiana, on what Ruby refers to as 'shore leave'. This involves possessing a small girl, and tormenting her family, killing them if they disobey her.

When Sam and Dean enter the house, Sam is about to kill the girl, when Dean reveals that she is no longer possessed. Sam turns to Ruby, who has followed the boys, for help again, but she says it is too late to save Dean. As the hellhounds come for Dean, the boys barricade themselves in a room. Dean, who is able to see the true face of demons, realises that the body possessed by Ruby now contains Lilith. She pins Sam to a wall, and Dean to a table. She says Sam no longer has anything she wants, and makes him watch as the hellhounds tear Dean to pieces. She then turns her power on Sam, but it has no effect. He takes Ruby's Knife, and is about to kill Lilith when she disinhabits the body.
Lilith in Myth and Religion
The demon Lilith is one of the most infamous in demonology. In ancient Hebrew tradition Lilith is depicted as Adam's first companion, created equally to Adam from the dust of the earth. In medieval Europe, Lilith was variously the wife, concubine or grandmother of Satan.

According to Hebrew tradition, the Lilin are Lilith's daughters and are dangerous demonic entities, considered in Hebraic writings to be the children born to Lilith after her escape from the garden of Eden. In Islamic tradition, once Lilith left Adam and joined with Shaitan/Iblis, their children became the djinn, humanoid creatures created from smokeless fire.

The etymology of 'Lilith' strongly points towards an association with night and with air, and later translations of the Bible have referred to Lilith as a 'screech owl.'

Within Paganism, Lilith has various standings. For followers of Wicca, Lilith tends to be seen as one of many names for the Goddess, the supreme feminine divine power. For other polytheistic Pagans, Lilith is often seen as a misunderstood deity or entity, an example of the denigrated feminine as the patriarchy gained prominence. She is often seen as;
  • a fertility Goddess; on leaving the garden of Eden, Lilith was thought to have given birth to a hundred children a day
  • a Goddess of unrepressed sexuality; the example of a woman at her sensual peak
  • a Goddess of air and night; in the King James Bible, Lilith is referred to as the 'screech owl' and the etymology of her name indicates air related abilities and her region of power is in the night time
  • a Dark Goddess; similar to the Hindu Dark Goddess, Kali-Ma, embodying the dark-side of the feminine
  • a Goddess of Witches; in a role similar to that of the Goddess Hekate of the Greek pantheon

Katie Cassidy

Katie Cassidy (born November 25, 1986) is an American singer and actress perhaps best known for starring in Black Christmas.

Biography

Early life
Cassidy was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of '70s pop idol David Cassidy and former model Sherry Benedon (née Kaltschnee); the two had an "on-again, off-again" relationship during the 1970s-1980s, resulting in Katie's birth, fifteen years after first meeting. Cassidy's paternal grandparents were actors Jack Cassidy and Evelyn Ward. She grew up in Calabasas, California with her mother and stepfather, Richard Benedon, an ER physician. She now has a close relationship with David Cassidy. She has two older sisters, Jenna and Jaime. As a child, Cassidy took to tumbling and eventually became a cheerleader for the California Flyers, a competitive team. She cheered as a freshman for Calabasas High School where she attended classes and graduated in 2005. As a child, Cassidy became interested in show business. She is also known for dating two members of former boy band Dream Street, rocker Greg Raposo (2002 - 2003) and popstar Jesse McCartney (2004-2007). Raposo's 2003 track "We're In Love" was written for her 16th birthday; it is also rumored that McCartney's album Right Where You Want Me is about her. McCartney has confirmed that megahit Bleeding Love was written about Cassidy.

Career

Cassidy started community theater when she was in elementary school. She modeled for Abercrombie and Fitch and Rock and Republic's line in 2004, which helped open the door to an acting career. Her mother, Sherry, would not allow Katie to act professionally until completing her high school education. After high school, Katie was planning to attend NYU's Tisch School of Performing Arts, but instead landed a number of jobs, including a recurring role as Zoe on 7th Heaven. She then guest-starred in the one-hour drama Sex, Love & Secrets, but the series was canceled after a few episodes. In 2002 she released a single called "I Think I Love You". Her 2006 projects included a small role in the horror remake When a Stranger Calls and Click with Adam Sandler. She has also starred in another horror remake, the murderous Christmas classic Black Christmas. She has several films awaiting release.

She was filming scenes at Agnes Scott College for the movie Revenge of the Nerds, but production was halted when the college backed out of its agreement. It eventually stopped the filming and production, and the movie has been canceled. She completed filming in Paris, where she worked on a film called Taken with Liam Neeson and Maggie Grace. She is scheduled to star in a movie remake of the hit television series Dallas as Lucy Ewing, beating out Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Simpson. Filming for Dallas is scheduled to begin sometime in 2008. Cassidy has also landed a recurring role on The CW supernatural television drama Supernatural. Series creator Eric Kripke has confirmed that Ruby will return in the fourth season.

Biography
Although mentioned only briefly by Ruby as Sam's main "competition", Lilith is introduced in the final moments of "Jus in Belo", appearing as a little girl with her mother. Lilith is able to fool all those in the police station which briefly held Sam Winchester and Dean Winchester. She approaches Nancy Fitzgerald, the sweet and pious secretary, asking her if she has seen two boys who she describes as "one is really tall and one is really cute." Nancy then asks the little girl what her name is. The girl responds "Lilith," and reveals white eyes. This catches the attention of Agent Henriksen, an FBI agent who has just recently stopped pursuing the Winchesters after discovering that demons and the supernatural are real. As Henriksen approaches Lilith, she holds out her hand and emits a bright, white light which causes an explosion which destroys the police station. Later on, Ruby informs the Winchesters that Lilith has found them, showing them what she did as a way to send a clear, brash message that she wants them dead. After giving Sam and Dean pouches which would throw Lilith off their tracks temporarily, Ruby informs them that they should have listened to her. Presumably, Lilith was alerted by one of the demons who escaped the mass exorcism in the police station of the Winchester's whereabouts.

After it is revealed by Bela Talbot that Lilith holds Dean's contract, Sam and Dean track her down to New Harmony, Indiana, where she is on "shore leave". For fun, she has taken over the body of another little girl and is holding the family hostage, forcing them to act as if she is their little girl. Demons have also taken over the rest of the town, stationed there to protect her. After stealing Ruby's demon-killing knife, Sam and Dean head there and manage to get into the house. However, Lilith secretly expels Ruby, who followed Sam and Dean there, and takes over her host. Dean figures out the truth too late, and Lilith holds Sam at bay as a hell hound kills Dean. Lilith then tries to kill Sam, but finds that she is powerless against him. As Sam then goes to kill her with Ruby's knife, Lilith flees from the host and escapes.
Background and origins
According to series creator Eric Kripke, she is "a combination of all myths concerning Lilith". Noting that the mythological Lilith's two main roles appear to be "destroyer of children and seducer of men", Kripke also stated that the show will explore those two roles, with the former already being displayed in the character's choice of hosts. In addition, Kripke stated that Lilith is higher in the demonic hierarchy than Azazel, and that "you don’t get much higher than her until you start digging into Lucifer territory."[1]
Powers and abilities

Lilith harbors immense power and rank in the demonic world. This extreme potency is first showcased at the end of "Jus in Belo", as Lilith proceeds to cause an explosion with the flick of a wrist. Similar to other demons, Lilith possesses the power to wield telekinesis as well as superhuman strength, most likely at higher levels than that of a regular demon. However, her powers can seemingly be countered, as, in "No Rest For The Wicked", Sam's own demonic abilities apparently nullify Lilith's.

Although granted an abundance of power, Lilith is still forced to possess human hosts in order to carry out her actions. However, she is powerful enough to expel other demons from hosts, as she does with Ruby in order to use the host to trick Sam and Dean. Unlike most other demons, Lilith's demonic eye color is white instead of black, similar to Azazel's yellow eyes.
