The Mummy

Rick is an American serving as an officer in the French Foreign Legion. He promises to take Evelyn Carnahan and her brother Jonathan Carnahan to Hamunaptra, the city of the dead, and back again. However, Evelyn reads from the book of the dead and unleashes the immortal spirit of Imhotep - once a High Priest to the god-kings of Egypt, now resurrected in his mummified form. Rick then decides to take a modicum of responsibility for the situation and help them; however Evie is eventually captured. Rick then goes to rescue her and gets in a fight. He kills many mummies then finally fights Imhotep. After Evie makes Imhotep mortal, Rick impales Imhotep, killing him. They then have to escape as the building collapses. The movie closes with them riding off on camels with gold unknowingly hanging in the saddle bag.

The Mummy Returns
Main article: The Mummy Returns set in 1933

In The Mummy Returns Rick is now married to Evie and has a son, named Alex. Sure enough, Alex is kidnapped and they must go on a quest to get him back and stop Imhotep. But Alex has activated the bracelet of Anubis, which has now awakened the Scorpion King (who is going to wipe out the world) so in addition to saving Alex, Rick O'Connell must also save the world yet again.

In a conversation with Ardeth Bay, he mentions that he was "in a Cairo orphanage" where he acquires a scorpion shaped tattoo. How long he was there is undetermined as he speaks with a distinctly American accent.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
Main article: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor set in 1944
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor will initially take place in ancient times in China and follow the background of the film's villain (Jet Li). The film will move forward to a post-World War II setting.[1] The film will take places roughly 11 years after the previous film, in which Rick and Evie's son Alex is now 21 years old, and has followed his parent's footsteps as an archeologist and adventurer. It appears that Rick and Alex have become estranged over the years.

Rick has used several firearms of various kinds. Here is a list of some.

Fictional biography

The Mummy

Main article: The Mummy (1999 film)

Evelyn is a British librarian in Cairo and aspiring Egyptologist. She and her brother Jonathan contact Rick O'Connell when they find out that he knows that location of Hamunaptra; however, Rick is in prison and set to be hanged, and promises to take her to Hamunaptra if she helps save his life. She strikes a deal with the warden to keep him from being hanged and Rick, making good on his promise, takes her, Jonathan and the warden to Hamunaptra and it is there that they find the remains of the high priest Imhotep. Evelyn quickly figures out that he was buried alive and was locked in with flesh eating scarabs. At the same time she "borrows" the Book of the Dead from the Egyptologist who is with the Americans, and reads from the book. She translates the Egyptian language and accidentally awakens Imhotep. During the escape from locusts summouned by Imhotep, she ends up face-to-face with him. Ardeth Bey (leader of a secret society, devoted to making sure the "creature" never awakens) orders all of them to leave Hamunaptra. Imhotep eventually brings the Ten Plagues of Egypt and captures Evelyn who he chooses to be his human sacrifice to resurrect his lover, Anck-su-namun. Rick, Jonathan and Ardeth Bay make it to Hamunaptra and fend off Imhotep's mummies. Evelyn fights Anck-su-namun who tries to kill her, so that she can be fully resurrected. Rick fights Imhotep and Jonathan reads from the golden book of Amun-Ra and orders the killing of Anck-su-namun. With Rick occupied with Imhotep, Evelyn reads from the book which takes the mummy's immortality. Rick kills the mortal mummy by impaling him with a sword. The heroes escape the ruins of the city and ride off into the sunset on a pair of camels, unaware that their saddlebags are packed with the treasures that Beni looted earlier.

The Mummy Returns

Rick and Evelyn are now married and have a son, named Alex. Evelyn begins to have recurring visions involving the bracelet of Anubis, which once belonged to The Scorpion King. When Alex puts on the bracelet he sets in motion a chain of events that will awaken The Scorpion King. Imhotep's allies, including his now resurrected lover, Anck-su-namun, intend to raise the mummy, get him to kill The Scorpion King and then use his army to take over the world. Alex is kidnapped by Imhotep's allies and the O'Connell family must go on a quest to get him back and stop Imhotep. Evelyn's as well as Rick's connection to Imhotep and The Scorpion King is made clear. Evie was Nefertiri, daughter of Seti the First and protector of the Bracelet of Anubis. Nefertiri witnessed her father's death at the hands of Imhotep and Anck-su-namun. Evelyn is re-united with Alex but in the pursuit is stabbed to death by Anck-su-namun. Alex finds the book of the dead and brings his mother back to life. Evelyn then fights Anck-su-namun in an intense battle. She defeats and pursues her into the temple where Rick is fighting the Scorpion King. Rick kills the Scorpion King with the Spear of Osiris, which is the only weapon that can kill the monstrous ruler. As he delivers the fatal blow, the Scorpion King turns into ash, as does the army of Anubis who the Medjai were fighting. As the temple begins to collapse, both Imhotep and Rick are pulled into a chasm and are being pulled down by souls lining its sides reaching out for them. Rick tells Evelyn to leave but she risks the falling debris to save her husband. Imhotep lets go willingly after Anck-su-namun refuses to help him and instead escapes (only to die in a pit of scarabs and scorpions). Rick, Evelyn, Alex and Jonathan meet up with Izzy's airship which arrives at the last moment. They escape the oasis unharmed and sail into the sunset.

Rachel Weisz will not be returning for the third film. Initially, the producers considered having Evelyn killed during an air raid in London during World War II. However, they ultimately decided to have the character return, this time portrayed by actress Maria Bello. Maria Bello signed a contract to do the next three Mummy movies. It has also been stated by Maria Bello that her version of Evelyn is different than Rachel Weisz's incarnation.
